1940 Lionel 3814 Operating Merchandise Boxcar. Heat Stamped.

 

The product is a 1940 Prewar Lionel 3814 Operating Merchandise Boxcar, featuring Tuscan color and metal construction and desireable heat-stamped graphics

 

The 3814 was offered by Lionel from 1939 until Lionel ceased making toy trains to support the WWII war effort.  This is the very desirable type III with deep dish frame, heat stamped graphics, and black journal boxes. The type III was offered starting in 1940.   

 

The 3814 has an internal mechanism that ejected Bakelite boxes (not included).  It was actuated with a standard remote control track section.  This mechanism has not been tested. This is one of the most attractive freight cars Lionel made prewar.
